Essay questions.

1) I wrote two essays. Both cover the same periods of my life but one is more like an ambitious story, the other is more like an autobiography. Im certain that the story one is less boring but my question is this. How risky are ambitious essays? I mean, do the people reading these essays want academic type essays, or would they enjoy reading something less boring? The reason I ask is because everyone tells me they dont want to see your writing style, or that your a great writer, they just want to know quickly about who you are and what you have done. Is it different for English majors? This major is impacted so I would assume they are looking for a tiny bit of writing style right?

2) Is it normal to put the actual schools name in the essay as if it was personally written for them?

let me know if you want to read my two essays. thanks

Sure, PM me with prompts!

wow good questions… now that I think about it, I have the same questions.

I assume as long as the first essay describes you well then it wouldn’t hurt. Afterall they’re reading hundreds of essays a day, and a boring one will be pretty bad…

I assume it wouldn’t have any negative effects… but it may not be beneficial either.

PM with title/prompt.

The thing is the prompts have not been released yet so I just went off what most prompts are. you know the typical “describe yourself…etc” and the standard “why is your major what it is…etc” Anyway ill you guys now

1) trust me, they want something less boring, but that emphasizes your strengths. the admissions officers that i’ve met have told me that while going through hundreds of essays they look for something that stands out.

2) no, it’s fine. colleges want you to be writing to them specifically, not any general college.

PM and i’ll have a look.
