Essay Styles

I am aware that there are several different writing styles that one can employ to capture the attention of the audience, who in the case of boarding schools are the admissions officers.
I am assuming that they go through several essays over a short period of time.

Recently, I have written a very figurative, metaphorical essay. At first sight, it is poetical, light, free-flowing. Within this essay, I have incorporated a very clever (or so I think ;)) allusion to the school. To the wary eye, the meaning of the metaphor is easily recognized. But it can also go unnoticed, simply another detail in the long, flowery descriptions.

Is this advisable? How much time does an admission officer spend on a particular applicant and a specific essay?

Thank you very much. :)

to be honest, i wouldn't be suprised if they just skimmed it over lunch.

Agreed. But we'd have to see the essay before making a call.

well idk that anything that u feel comfortable writing with, as long as the grammer/spelling/those little things are alright- do whatever feels right,im sure that admissions will notice it. ^_^

Thank you for your advice.

Any other comments on this topic?

chaostheory, could you pm it to me? you've gotten me very very interested...

Indeed. But it is against the policies of the school to show the essay to others. I will adhere to the policy in this case. :)

Oops haha just kidding then. Sorry I always see people share their essays in the college forum so I assumed it was the same here..
