Essay Topic

I have seen some very helpful posters on this section of the forum, and I was looking for some critique on my essay topic. I will leave out specifics to prevent "plagiarism" (if you can really call it that, but it was something warned about on this section of the forum)

The prompt addressed would be the one about a story central to your identity.

-I would start of with some kind of introduction
-discuss how I learned about some idea but was skeptical
-how I tested the idea in an extracurricular and significantly improved
-how what I learned can be used in college/future.

does this sound too cheesy/fake/cliche?
does this convey well passion/enjoyment for the EC (I actually enjoy this EC), or should I discuss something learned from a struggle in the EC?

edit: do I have to be significantly good at the EC to write about it (ie, placing in conference/state for a sport, or aime for math, etc.)

Only if you write it that way. People are always posting ideas/topics and asking if they’re okay, but it’s really hard to tell whether or not a topic itself is acceptable. You have to see the actual essay.
I can see the “how I’ll use this in the future” part becoming pretty trite, though.
