I wrote a first draft of an essay about my bad relationship with my dad. Would this be a good subject or no? I'm afraid it's too touchy. My mom has suggested that I write about why I want to become a nurse (so cliche). I'm so confused! I think that I've lived a pretty normal life, so how do I find something extraordinary to write about? Thanks.

bump...anyone?

dont make the essay too personal. it makes adcoms feel uncomfortable reading intimate details about people they do not know. think of the essay as a written interview. they asked you a question, now answer it. you wouldnt reveal personal details to someone in person, so dont do it on paper either.

Your essay should be "personal" in the sense that it is so detailed and specific about your thoughts and/or experiences, so revealing of a meaningful part of you, that no one else on earth could write it. It should not be "personal" in the sense that it reveals intimate details of your life that are best not shared with strangers.
