i mean, is there a website or something that shows the most common responses. for example, im sure there are tons of essays written about parents for number 3, the one that asks about people that have influenced you. i dont want to discuss a commonly used topic for my essay

Go with what YOU want to write about. The essay is about your voice. If all else fails, try ‘topic of your choice’. My English teacher shared some essays from the past with us, one he read to us was an anecdote from a girl who had major surgery and when she woke up, her first words were “I want chicken mcnuggets.” (That one right there’s a winner, IMO.)

So don’t worry about picking a common topic, be more concerned about not just listing out the things you’ve done but making meaningful connections out of it. Or talking about yourself, instead of letting your awards speak for you.

Overdone essay topics include: sports as a learning experience, your service trip to (Guatemala, Africa), and your inspirational, influential grandparents.
