Essay topics

<p>What did you all write about for the Elon essay question? No one from my school or that I know applied to Elon and I haven't been able to discuss this with anyone. I feel like the question left limited room for creativity and I'm just curious to see what ideas people came up with.</p>

<p>A tip to those who are applying regular decision: When my admissions counselor came to me school, she told me she reads hundreds of essays on variations of environmental friendliness. I'm sure you could write a good essay on it but I'd try to stray away from that!</p>

<p>Yeah, those are 2 stinky essay prompts. My son chose overpopulation as his “issue of critical importance.” You’re right; no room for creativity or revealing his “self.” </p>

<p>The Elon essay portion of the app seemed like a test, not an opportunity for Admissions to get to know students better, which is what other schools say they’re looking for.</p>

<p>As I recall, you can write an essay on a topic of your choice.</p>

<p>Oh, crud, bettzke, you’re right. I just re-read the essay portion and see topic of your choice is indeed there in the intro. </p>

<p>What shame. Son chose topic of his choice for the Common App essay and it was excellent, really excellent. </p>

<p>Oh well. What’s done is done. We’ll know next Friday.</p>

<p>I kinda wrote my essay on a combination of the two and my own topic, if you want to see my essay private message me.</p>

<p>Its about my expeirence working at a resturant and how my manager didn’t have health insurence and how that effected me.</p>

<p>I thought it was pretty good.</p>

<p>D did “topic of her choice.” Didn’t like the essay prompts - they were basically two variations of the same question. It was basically about her most embarrassing moments and how she got thru them. She was admitted ED.</p>

<p>Don’t worry, DB! I’m sure your S’s essay is fine! Just not too fun to write. ;-)</p>

<p>I did the one about issues in our community. And I talked about the growing number of permature births and birth defects. And I talked about how I am a member of the March of Dimes’ Leadership Council which spreads awareness and raises money.</p>
