Essay Writing

What's a good site where I can learn to write a better essay? Not any specific type of essay, just good essays as in structure, meaning, and organization. And how do I go about practicing essay writing? How do I score myself on my essays?

You can hire a writing tutor. PM me and I can point you in one possible direction.

Otherwise there are a number of people on these forums willing to critique writing.

I have the same provblem

If a tutor is out of the question for you, I’m sure you can find a lot of helpful information online.
Also, practicing always helps.

We can see that. :D

Read the elements of style.

There are literally hundreds of websites that you could use to help you. One on one help would probably be the best though when it comes to writing, because if you haven’t absorbed how to write through other essays and books then it may be unlikely that you will get it by simply reading a wall of text on how to write.

If you Private Message me, I could try to help you as best I can. Advertising in the forums may be kind of frowned upon…

https://essayplus.com worked greatly for me; you should give it a try

@jason_ccews Dishonesty and money aside, I doubt this would work if the teacher already had a feel for the OP’s writing style. If they are having trouble writing, and suddenly they have A-worthy essays, it will be extremely suspicious.

Have you approached your teacher with any of these questions, OP? Having your essay reviewed by your teacher would probably be the best help you could get, since they could tell you directly what they are looking for.

For practice, you shouldn’t need any guides. If you want to write an argument essay, just come up with a claim on your own to argue and write. I’m sure you could find example prompts for different types of essays online if you wanted to, though. You could probably find essay outline templates online as well.

I ordered proofreading and editing which was extremely useful for me -even more than teachers since they have professional writers who are specialized in these things.

@I’m There’s a great blog called essay hell that I found out a bit too late. It goes beyond the cliché essay tips ("Be yourself, tell your story, whatevz), and shows you concrete examples of good essays. The lady who runs the blog is an essay tutor, and has a LOT of information that is actually very useful, (how to use anecdotes, how to make your essay interesting… and why most essays are boring).

All her students have been accepted into their top choice schools. I highly reccomend you check out this blog. It’s a hidden gem.

@jason_ccew Oh, I’m sorry. I thought you meant that they should order someone to write their essay. That does seem like a good idea, if you don’t have a reliable proofreader.
