I’m wondering when can someone start writing their essays? When do the colleges usually put up the “new” apps up?
I’m also wondering when and how does someone arrange for interviews… (Esp. if EA)
Thanks

A lot of the people I knew who went off to college, started as early as their Junior year and others the summer before senior year. I do know the Georgetown app is already up.

Yeh. You have to know what you're writing about, first-- so you basically need to know what schools you're applying to and what questions they're asking.

However, the common app questions dont' change from year to year, so if you want to get started earlier (and are applying to at least one of the schools that accepts the common app), those questions are a good place to start. Most of the rest of the applications (that aren't already up) go up in the middle of august, and they should definately be around by Sept. Basically, you can and should start writing as soon as you know what you're writing about.

More information about interviews usually comes with the application, either before or after you submit the first part of it to the college (and make sure you submit it as soon as possible). Many will tell you who you need to contact, or have the person contact you.

I'm sorry I never understood what the "common app" was... is it like the app the uc system offers.. used by all the uc's... where you only need to fill it out once?

What if I'm planning to apply to the Ivy Lauge... do they have similar essays/apps?

Exactly like that-- one app that certain colleges agree to accept.

Some of the Ivys accept the common app (Harvard and Yale, for instance), and some have supplements (extra forms that you have to fill out in addition to the common app). Others, like Penn, have completely different apps. Some of the questions overlap, and some of them are so broad that you could make minor modifications to the same essay. It really depends.
