My daughter's mother is ethnic Hawaiian, I (her father) am caucasian. Can she check-off both boxes (reported ethnicity) in the Common App. Might the Hawaiian/Pacific Islander component help in college admissions, and what would colleges require in terms of verification? I don't believe that we were asked for this info when filling-out her birth certificate, and other that providing her picture, I don't know how to support this status (if support is required).

Thanks in advance.

is her mom a real ethnic hawain or like Elizabeth Warren is a native american ( only in her mind) it will most probably help lower the standards she will need to get in to a college. if that does not bother you or your daughter, check off the box and ride the gravy train!

I do not believe you have to verify or substantiate your claim (at least I didn’t last year when I filled out the Common App). They usually take your word for it - I checked Asian and never had to verify anything.

And yes, she can check off both boxes because she is part Hawaiian and part Caucasian.
