Event in Grosse Point Farms

Anyone else in the Detroit area going to this? I don't want to be the only one going...
It would be really awkward.

I wouldn't worry about how many others come. My ds went to an event in our area for accepted students last year. Few students came, but lots of alumni did and we all really enjoyed getting to know W&L from their perspective. I think in retrospect that it was great there weren't so many kids there - gave us more time to do what we needed to.

^ Thanks :)

What were your impressions of W&L? I really like the idea of a small liberal arts college. I just don't know what distinguishes W&L from the many other options on my list...

(Other than the incredible academic prestige of course... But I'm not really into prestige so much as I am into originality)

Have you visited W&L yet?

No, but I want to some time this spring...

What other schools do you have high up on your list smart.cookie?

Right now my list is something like this:

Wash and Lee (from what I have heard I think it would be a strong fit)

Vanderbilt (another school that I really like)

University of Michigan (in-state, very affordable)

Barrett Honors at ASU (probable full-ride with National Merit)

Boston University (I would go here if I was named a Trustee scholar, otherwise it would likely be too expensive)

Washington & Lee is certainly different from the other school you have listed. The immediate difference is size and location. W&L is a very small LAC (~1800) located in a lovely small town. Academics are very strong at W&L, and traditions (esp honor code) shape campus life. Seems to me like you need to decide on big vs small, urban vs rural. However, if those things are secondary to possibly receiving substantial scholarship money, I'd certainly go for the Johnson $$. Good luck!

^ Thanks for the advice. Each school has something different that I like, and right now I am searching for the perfect fit. I am a very adaptable person, and I think that each one offers an exciting slice of a different location, which is why I want to apply to them all, see where I can afford, and then see which would be the best for me...

The visit went really well. I really like the idea of W&L.
