I’m very interested in going to Barnard but some things I’ve heard about the extremity of the feminist presence there worries me. I’m all for female empowerment and everything and I’m quite (though not very) socially liberal, but when I say ‘feminist’ I don’t just mean women’s rights and empowerment, which is what I think feminism really should be. I mean the feminism that seems to go more into blaming men for everything and expecting all women to act in a certain way (which I don’t think is women’s liberation at all) if you get what I’m saying, I’d love a reply!

My daughter and you sound very similar in that regard. She is from a fairly conservative region of the country (the Southeast), and was likewise a bit concerned. She Loved her time at Barnard. She was definitely in the political minority, but was still thrilled to be on campus when such things happened as presidential candidates speaking on campus and Hillary Clinton speaking at her graduation. Her horizons were expanded and she is simply a stronger and more confident (and very well educated) version of her best self. :)

Our conservative daughter maintained her conservative beliefs at Barnard and in fact probably strengthened them.
