Exactly how much weight does being and Eagle Scout carry with College Apps?

I feel like everyone has a different opinion on this. I've heard it doesn't matter a whole lot, and also that it can get you into a lot more competitive schools than your scores and GPA qualify you for. What is your opinion? If possible, back it up with people you know that we're Eagle Scouts and where they got in. How much did yet think it helped?

I, myself being an Eagle Scout, am under the believe that it helps. I mean, how could it hurt? Its not going to be the single thing that gets you into Harvard. However, being an Eagle Scout shows many things that I do not need to list. Colleges respect this. What I am trying to say is…yes, it helps. My friend attends Stanford. He had great Grades, 36 ACT score, course rigor, and everything academic you could think of. He had minimal E.C, but was an Eagle Scout, and was sure to emphasize it in his apps. Also, from what I have heard, DO NOT write a cliche essay about it. You want to stand out, and a ton of people applying to top notch schools are Eagle’s, thus not setting you apart. However, I have read wonderful essays about being an Eagle Scout, and they got in-Im guessing this is how my friend got in as well.
