SIX high school students are selected nationally, with ONE alternate.
Being a part of the USA IMO team will give you at least one of HYP, and almost definitely MIT. These are the “sure bets” Harvard’s Dean of Admissions talks about - the one whose admission, based on academic achievements, is hardly in question. Of course, there was one instance where one such member was waitlisted at Harvard and accepted at MIT, but I daresay this case was an exception.</p>
