Report of the Campus Cultural Working Group

"These behaviors do not reflect our values as a community or the level of excellence to which we collectively -- students, faculty, trustees, administrators, and staff -- aspire. Therefore, we are calling on all constituencies in the Colby community to help us re-imagine social life on Mayflower Hill in the absence of alcohol abuse, they are establishing two working groups to tackle specific aspects of Colby's culture as it relates to the use of alcohol."

Hard liquor is to be banned from campus (leading to those dangerous ETOH levels) but I'm quite sure when? Has anyone heard?

The hard liquor ban will most likely go into effect for the fall '10 semester. It will still allow for the consumption of hard liquor at catered events and in the Blue light pub. The effect of this ban is likely to be minimal. We ban all alcohol on campus for those <21, but they still drink. It aims to be rid of hard alcohol at parties, but will have little effect on the hard liquor consumed while “pregaming” because those students do it in smaller, less rowdy groups where security is unlikely to be involved. From what I have heard: those on campus who already consume it are not worried about the ban. It’s more of a symbol than anything in my opinion and will have little effect.
