Exchange from the UK

I’ve just had my place confirmed at UMASS for a year long exchange starting this September and am looking to get advice on just about everything!

I’d appreciate opinions on the different housing, as it’s an exchange year I’d really like to get involved socially so don’t want to be somewhere too quiet but equally I appreciate having a bit of quiet now and then. I’ll be studying at Isenberg so proximity to that would be helpful too.

I’d also just love to know your opinions on Amherst as a school, what’s the social life and the surrounding area like?

Great college town, lots of students from the 5 colleges.
Umass is known for its parties (which may or may not be to your taste - American students’ concept of “partying” may seem a bit juvenile to a sandwich year British student; keep in mind, no legal drinking till you’re 21 so no pub crawl, and lots of illegal/dangerous drinking.)
