Andover decisions for Fall 2017 were released March 10, so if you already applied you should have heard by now.

@janesmith Hi Jane. You see, I applied late after I contacted Andover about it

Sadly, if you are a late applicant, it is extremely unlikely that you will be accepted for 2017. If I were you, I would focus on getting ready to apply in January of 2018: you will have a way better chance. Either way, best of luck!

If you were to apply for the 2018-19 school year…

If you get above 90% on the SSAT, you’re fine. There’s not a huge difference between somebody with a 93 or somebody with a 99.

Do you have any awards for your music? Are you good enough for it to make a difference in you application? You will have the opportunity to send in a video of you playing, so try to get a song ready.

Are you particularly good in your athletics? If so, reach out to coaches.

Sadly, it is more difficult to get in with financial aid: need blind isn’t totally what people think it is. Being from the Philippines may lower your chances, too (ORM).

Here are some tips to amp up your application: Do some community service, get those grades as high as they can go, do a lot of reading because it helps a TON with the verbal section on the SSAT.

ALSO: If I were you, I’d apply to more schools than PA. Nearly nobody gets in, even if they are extremely qualified. I applied to 8 schools, and got waitlisted at PA. Luckily, I got into some other great schools! It’s not all about going to the school with the lowest acceptance rate. For some, PA may be perfect, whereas for others, Deerfield may be perfect. Here are some more schools to look at (if you’re really invested in going to a good boarding school): Choate, Deerfield, Exeter, St. Paul’s, Hotchkiss, Taft, Northfield Mount Hermon, L’ville, Middlesex, Milton, Groton. Keep in mind: all of the top 30 schools are AMAZING; PA isn’t some school that’s 300x superior (I feel like a lot of kids on this site believe that).

Let me repeat that: all of the top 30 schools are amazing

Welp, that’s my main advice! Feel free to PM me with any questions

Thank you!

I don’t know what else I would need to be a good candidate for admission in SY 2017-2018. Please give me tips too on SSATs just in case!

What do you think are my chances of getting into PA? I also need financial aid. Does that lower my chances? I’m from the Philippines and I speak English, Filipino, Mandarin, and Fookien.

Sorry for the late response: long week! I think that you have a very good shot at all of these schools if you apply for the 2018 school year! I got into Choate recently and I’ve never won an award in my life (except for when I won the pi-digit reciting competition at MathCounts :)) ). A lot of your acceptance is also contingent upon you being an overall kind, fun person. I had good scores and lot of community service, part of a couple of clubs etc… My point is that although it’s extremely unpredictable, I’d say that you’ve got a good shot. If you make your essays original, and are good in your interviews, then I’d expect that you get into at least two of these schools.
