Expected Family Contribution?

Middlebury boasts being not only need-blind, but to meeting 100% of demonstrated financial need. And I'm not going to lie: my package is amazing, almost a full ride. However, they said on my reward letter that my EFC is $4000, while on my FASFA it's absolutely $0. Four grand is actually a very, very significant portion of my family's income (we're below poverty-level); luckily, my federal Pell grant alone more than covers the EFC, and along with the fact that I've luckily received many outside scholarships, I have nothing to worry about.

But I'm wondering how they can claim to meet all of the demonstrated need when they apparently made up their own EFC? Doesn't really make sense to me.
