@TiggyB62 – we haven’t purchased a student laptop in nearly three years, so I figured my info was out of date. The last time my son received the $99 printer and a $100 iTunes GC in addition to the discounted student pricing, but paid full price for Apple Care. Since Apple Care will expire in a couple of months, I figure the MBP will probably go the day after!
@ct1417 Those were the Apple good old days!!!
Thanks for the comments. It just is hard to take that we are going pay 60,000 or more per year and if my child wants to use the treadmill in the gym I have to pay a fee. I’ll get over it,of course, but…oh well. Big picture, big picture big picture. Everybody excited about Cornell, and I am as well.
This is interesting…and helps comparing apples to apples…
So +350 for NOT taking their insurance?
What is the gym fee? This all seems very nickel and diming…kind of the opposite of the “bells and whistles” others offer for the $60k price tags.
Cornell Fitness Center membership is $145/year. S1 got a job there and it included free membership
I found one of the largest additional expenses was Greek Life. Dues/Housing/house food plan/formals/retreats/conclaves etc etc…thousands of dollars additional each semester.
Also, $50 admin fee to sign up for a meal plan. My D wanted to sign up for sailing for her PE class and it’s $290. Holy cow.
I remember also paying a “lab fee” for the senior “Wines Course”…
yeah the $50 “admin fee” for meal plan threw me off too! WHAT THE ****?
For Apple computer bargains for this year, they aren’t out yet. They are in addition to student pricing and this is the latest they’ve ever done them. We were told to hold on (for our younger son, not the one at Cornell). They should be out any day. It’s usually an extra $100 or something on top of education pricing. The older one got that in an iTunes card three years ago.
We’ve found Cornell to be really generous. This is the one year that we’ll have two undergraduates. They’ve increased our FA to make that easier. We are grateful, since our lovely state school gave us nothing for our son who will attend Rutgers. He’s going full price there. It does add up.
@NJCornellMom the Apple stores in Chicagoland are only offering educational pricing, nothing extra.
@NJCornellMom
I’m glad Cornell is generous for you. But we’re not really talking about FA here. What we are talking about are the nickel and dimming outside of the normal tuition and fees and board and lodging. It’s irritating specially for a full pay.
Yes, when you receive nothing from the school, despite other kids in college, so you are spending 100,000 in pre tax income to go to Cornell, and then you have to write another check to use the treadmill, it is “irritating.” I understand the economics, but we receive nothing from the school and it doesn’t feel generous. I certainly do applaud the efforts to make the school affordable for all and am glad the school is generous with aid for many students.
@TiggyB62 - it’s unusually late, but the Apple store at Rutgers told us they still expect the usual deal to arrive soon.
