For current students, how are the expenses for the semesters. Weekly? I am not going to have much money to spend and I need to know how to plan out my budget. Does anyone know the comparison of prices in Amherst v. those on Long Island/Manhattan/Westchester? How much do things tend to add up?

I can give you a comparison to Westchester, I live in Cortlandt Manor...

Overall, prices are cheaper in Amherst. Movies cost 5.50. restaurants (although they are mostly quick food for college students) tend to cost less annd have larger portions. Not that you'll be drivingg next year, but on average gas is about 30 cents cheaper. Retail stores/the mall are the same, I think sales tax is a little lower.

As far as overall costs go, they do tend to add up. Books can cost around 600 a semester if you take classes that require either a lot of books are expensive books. No matter how much you want/don't want to, you'll find yourself ordering take out occasionally, if not more. Valentine food gets kind of... boring after a while. If you can manage it, I would suggest getting an on campus job, even to work like 1-2 days. The small boost in income really helps manage those "adding up" costs.

I don't remember what the guide books say under "personal expenses" when planning for tuition, but I remember it being pretty accurate. I would use that as a benchmark for how much u need to spend this year. Hope this helps.

whoa movie tickets are mad cheap!!! hott

I agree. it's nine dollars here in cherry hill, NJ

$10.75 here in NYC. Ouch! It's such a rip-off.

$9.50, $8.50 if you show your student ID

and there is this one theater with leather seats that recline, and they charge $12

but then again, there is this theater right next to George Mason University, and I believe on tuesday or something you can watch a second-run movie for $2

when i went to maine there was a theater that had $1 movies on tuesdays, it was freakin awesome
