Well, I'm in wake county, and right now I work with a new restaurant and they are very generous about pay. Remember that this is north carolina. There are plenty of jobs available in hard labor. Think about construction, agriculture and what not. The year before last I harvested tobacco at a farm in johnston county. I don't know your situation, but if you have access to a car it would be worth it to drive a little while to whereever you can work. I was paid 10 per hour under the table. The work is hard but I'm glad that I did it. Are there any areas around you where painting/powerwashing or lawn maintanence would be possible? You can make a lot of money doing that.

A lot of the jobs cater to illegal immigrants, but they pay better than you would expect.

Hmmm........I know construction workers and construction work for people in this area seems to be very slow so construction is not a viable option. I would look in Fayetteville for jobs but I'm not entirely sure that the increased pay would offset the cost of driving there everyday. Keep in mind that gas prices in the summer WILL reach a peak.

I'll think of something though. From what I've been told by financial aid, the earnings expectation is for personal items, transportation and book. I mean.............who needs stuff like toothpaste and soap anyway? But seriously, I'll work something out so that I don't have to resort to loans or additional work study.

Colbert Nation - have you actually recieved a financial aid package yet? If so, nothing changes - neither you nor your family have to come up with an additional $2500 that you did not know about. REALLY.

If you did not receive a financial aid package yet, please relax and wait to see what is offered. It is likely to be fairly generous.

I don't know how to clear up your understanding here and feel I have led you down a path of unnecessary concern. As I said, IF you have already been accepted and received a financial aid package and found it something you can deal with, NOTHING CHANGES. IF you have not yet been accepted, wait to see if you are - a financial aid package will come with the acceptance if you are entitled and you may well be pleasantly surprised.

I haven't been officially accepted (Got a likely letter and started thinking about how to pay :)). You didn't confuse me, I just kind of confused myself and started thinking too far ahead. I apologize for causing so much drama.

Hmm, Colbert - I now know you have not received a likely letter, that your family income qualifies you for free tuition and that you have not yet received your financial aid package. Sorry - changes the facts a little.
Just wanted to direct you to this FAQ page: http://www.dartmouth.edu/apply/generalinfo/news/psinitiativefaq.html
and to tell you that you are likely to find your financial aid package, when it comes, very workable.

The total amount of billed expenses for the year (tuition room and board) are $3,000 less the total amount Dartmouth uses to calculate how much financial aid you need. The extra $3000 is Dartmouth's estimate of how much you will need for books, transportation and miscellany. By careful travel arrangements and buying books online or used, you can easily cut into that amount to a good degree, and any of that $3000 you do NOT spend effectively reduces the the $2,500 student contribution by the same amount.

Wait to see what is offered - you may well find it far far more affordable to attend Dartmouth than many alternatives. : )

Yeah, I'm freaking out about nothing, sorry everyone. Just started overthinking again as I thought that we would be BILLED for $2,500 and was worried about having to come up with that kind of money.

And I caught a typo (At least I hope so unless you know something that I don't :P), I have gotten a likely letter. You said that I didn't :).

Thanks for your help

You are right - I meant that I knew you DID receive the likely - and congratulations! Sit back and enjoy!
