Binghamton is son’s first choice, and he got accepted with a merit scholarship. We are OOS, and without that merit, COA is too high. We’re having the conversation about how difficult it can be to maintain a 3.0 (he’ll be a math major in Harpur). He’s been high stats as a hs student and requires no oversight from us with regard to schoolwork, but we know how challenging the adjustment to college can be and so…we have concerns.
He also got an offer from UMass Amherst and the GPA requirement is less rigorous (“good academic standing” is how its described) but feels that Bing is a better fit for him.
Can anyone speak to how this policy goes at Binghamton? Do they give grace periods, or are they extremely stringent? I expect we’ll be asking about this at Accepted Students Day – we’re wondering how many seniors still have their merit scholarships!
