I guess this could apply to other civilians who have worked with the military's Morale, Well-Being, & Recreation (MWR) program, but figured military folk would have more experience.

I've been searching for internship programs (for next summer) for my field, recreation management, and keep getting search hits on the MWR programs offered by the Navy and Coast Guard. I've seen that the Army, Marines, and Air Force also have MWR programs but those three either don't offer internships or have it pretty well hidden in their websites.

Any experiences? Good people? Good programs? Good/bad interactions you've had? What base(s) were you located at?

I also posted this in the Parents Forum, hoping for more responses from military parents. Thanks!

I know nothing about internships. Our son did work as a non-appropriated fund lifeguard on our local Air Force Base and it worked out well for him. MWR is a well-used organization on any base, and we always found that they did a great job, especially overseas.

Right now we are in Alaska (Eielson AFB, Fort Wainwright Army Post) and MWR here runs fishing guide trips, whitewater rafting trips, as well as local rentals and many of the family support type trips. There seems to be a lot of cooperation here between Family Services and MWR.

We have also been in stationed in Europe, where MWR has a host of programs, most of which help servicemembers get out and enjoy local attractions, and these overlap with SATO travel, often with MWR offering excursions which are booked through SATO.

I am certain there are others with more recent/different experiences, but feel free to PM me if you would like more info on Alaska in particular.
