Explain the ED process after Match?

So if I list 8 schools on the match app and don't match with any of them, can I apply to one of those colleges (like Columbia) ED? Can I apply EA to any of the other 8 or possibly any of the other 35? Or would it be better to just forward the app to regular decision.

http://www.questbridge.org/ncm-flowchart

You can do either the NCM or apply EA -not both. A couple of exceptions: If you apply for the NCM & don’t match, a few partner schools will let you apply ED (or ED2, if they have it). This is after match results are out, and again, it’s limited to only a couple of schools.

You can choose not to participate in the NCM & just forward your app for regular decision in December. You can apply early to any schools you want, following the normal ED/EA/SCEA rules.

Since the chances of matching are very slim, I recommend the 2nd option. Colleges won’t get your Questbridge app until December if you take this route, though, so you need to prepare a thorough Common App.
