I am a single parent, head of household, financing my child’s college, and considering remarriage. He has 1 more year of school after next semester. Will his financial aid be affected, and if so, can I determine how? Barely able to pay now!
Did you already file the FAFSA for 2018/19? It has been available since Oct 1.
It uses 2016 tax information and your marital status as of the day you file the FAFSA.
Did your son take out his junior year student loan of $7,500?
My suggestion…get married after your kiddo files his last FAFSA…which will be October of his junior year in college (assuming he graduates on the four year plan). That way…your new husband’s income won’t need to be listed on the FAFSA.
It sounds like he is a junior in college now. So…do the 2018-2019 FAFSA now as a single parent. That way you will only need to list your income and assets.
