Because of my hypothyroidism, i got began getting tired a lot and unable to concentrate and had a steep gpa drop in sophomore year (im currently taking) from freshman year's 3.9 to 3.0 this year..

Would it be possible to explain this through my application, or would they just think it's a lame excuse and a cop-out?

EDIT: Also, would this screw up my chances at any "middle tier" colleges?

It is a real excuse and definitely explainable. When application time rolls around, make sure you ask your guidance counselor to include a note explaining the situation, and colleges will take it seriously.

does anyone else know it it would be ok to explain this to them or if this would screw up my chances at going to a "good" college, like any UCs? I don't know much about how college resumes work.
