What do you guys think about taking classes that you do not "necessarily" need? For example, I will have 65 semester credits by the end of Spring 06' and taking any additional courses would just be a waste of money, or would it? I plan on going to law school so I considered taking at least a Logic/Critical Thinking class to train me in the mean time. What do you guys think? Should I take the class? Would the benefits of taking the class (in the long run) outweigh the cost?

Yes, I think you should take it if you have the time and resources. It isn't a waste of money if you are learning; in fact, it's saving money by preparing you for the university you are transferring to.

And a logic class is a very good class to take.

i second that motion

I thought it would have been a waste of money because I figured that I wouldn't remember any of the material I have learned in the class by the time I take the LSAT and go to law school.

First, make sure it would be beneficial. I know someone who took that very class being pre-law and she said that it wasn't worth it.

Logic is a discipline that will quickly improve your work in ALL classes. And learning the basics as early as possible is best.

People complain that logic is a difficult class, but to say it "isn't worth it"--I'd like to hear her reasons for that.

She said that after all the math she took it was too easy. I have no idea how it goes in college, however, I took it in HS.

Has she taken the LSAT yet? There is informal logic and symbolic logic. Both are useful in helping with the LSAT. Informal logic is often more helpful when it comes to improving all kinds of coursework. But I haven't actually taken symbolic.

I am planning on law school too and the best advice I ever got was to challenge myself academically, no matter what the course, because that is what will help you most in the long run (as far as lsat and law school). Don't worry about retaining the knowledge, so to speak, because you will become a better reader and thinker without even realizing it.. take the extra classes.

devo, do you think I should take and extra class too? Last semester I took Math, Physics, O Chem and Bio and am a little tired. This semester I am signed up for 5 classes (3 math, 1 ochem, 1 physics classes) but my advisor is trying to get me not to take more than 4. Should I listen to her? I think that 5 courses would look really good when I transfer.

Take the extra class if you know you can handle it. It's not easy but lots of people do it. I was actually thinking of taking 5 classes but I decided the possibility of not getting my desired marks in the classes was too much of a risk since law school, as I am sure you know, is very numbers driven. A lower gpa with a difficult load looks good, but a difficult load and straight A's will look even better so make sure you can handle it.
