I am an incoming freshman (class of 2016) and I have a few specific questions regarding specific types extra-curricular activities at UCR as well as a general curiosity about extra-curriculars in general. I am not aware of a similar, active feed on the forum, but please feel free to direct me to one if it exists.

Firstly, and specifically, I am interested in any information regarding the existence/prevalence/contact information of the following:

"Quiz Bowl", "Academic League", "Science Olympiad", or any other related, team-based (or individual, for that matter) academic competitions either against other schools or against other UCR students

Student radio station

School newspaper

Community service/outreach groups, regardless of whether their focus is local or international

If you are a member, hold a leadership position, or know anyone else in such a position within any of the above organizations, please feel free to direct me to a website, Facebook page, or anything else you might have, or if there is someone to whom I should submit a resume via email, please let me know. I will be able to respond to direct replies to this post, or I am reachable by email at connor.richards11@************.

Thank you in advance, and any other organizations that would like to take an opportunity to recruit incoming freshman, please feel free to capitalize on this opportunity.

I’m not sure about a Quiz Bowl, but we do have tons of science and engineering student organizations. You can find them [here[/url], which is the main Student Org Network.

During fall quarter’s Welcome Week, we have a thing called Block Party and lots of clubs table at this event to recruit new members. Go to Block Party! You’ll be able to meet tons of orgs and sign up for more info and such. Also, lots of clubs table during Nooners (Wednesdays at noon at the Belltower), so you’ll be able to meet lots of active clubs throughout the year.

We do have a student radio station. It’s KUCR and it’s pretty awesome. You can learn more about it here: [url=http://kucr.org/]KUCR Radio](http://vcsaweb.ucr.edu/StudentOrgNetwork/Organizations/Browse). You can also email them at kucrinfo [at] kucr [dot] org for general info.

Our student newspaper, The Highlander, is one of my favorite parts of UCR! It’s a high-quality student newspaper and they always have lots of openings for writers and photographers. They have meetings every Monday at HUB 101 and you can check out the online version of the newspaper here: [The Highlander](http://www.highlandernews.org/)

And, if all else fails, you can start your own club here: [Club Registration](http://studentlife.ucr.edu/studentOrganizations/Pages/Registration.aspx)

Welcome to UCR!

elise: Thank you for such a comprehensive response! I’m going to have to spend some time looking through these pages, specifically the club directory and the paper! I appreciate all of your help!

Happy to help! I’ll take this time to shamelessly promote [Student Life at UCR](http://lifeatucr.■■■■■■■■■■/), which is UCR’s Student Life blog. It’s perfect if you want more info on upcoming events and life on campus. It’s written by students, so if you ever have a question, feel free to ask or shoot us an email at ucrstudentblog [at] gmail [dot] com :)
