Extra Curricular vs. Academics

Freshmen year, i joined golf team and i got in varsity. Now i'm a sophomore with 2 AP classes looking at several b's for the semester.

I guess i'm doing fine right now, but next year i'm planning to join jazz band, which'll take even more time than golf. So say i got in, should i quit golf? I'm not sure if i can take both at the same time because they both take a lot of time after school (tournaments, performances).
Would quitting golf to join jazz band show the college people that I'm uncommitted? or would it say i'm talented? (for me, its jazz band>golf) So 4 years varsity golf or 2years varsity then 2 years jazz band?

I'm not sure how much college people weighs the extra curricular stuff.. I don't even know if golf/jazz band is worth to give up better grades..

please help :(

Don’t decide based on what you or other posters think will look good to college admissions people. Do what you think you will enjoy the most and will work the best with your schedule. Then everything else will fall into place. You don’t have to make the decision for a little while anyways, so give it some thought before you sign up for your junior year classes in the spring.

Personally, I don’t think quitting golf would make you look “uncommitted.” It would show that you’re trying to explore different activities during your high school years to find something that you enjoy.

Agreed. Two and two doesn’t sound uncommitted. Do what you want and will enjoy more. Colleges only want to see that you’re doing something other than vegging out in the basement playing Halo.
