As I start college in the fall, what extracurricular activities do medical schools generally look for and appeals to them? I will be studying biomedical engineering, so right now I intend on joining some academic clubs such as Quiz Bowl, doing a co op program for BME, engineering internships if i get accepted to any, and doing any research i can, with professors or in labs. I also plan on volunteering at a local hospital and becoming a volunteer EMT. Is any of this good or about average for medical school and are there any other activities I can do that would really stand out?

Also a bit unrelated question, I’ve heard that for law school, the job prospects are very low if you don’t attend a top 10-15 law school. Is this true for medical school or are your job prospects after graduation pretty much the same if you attend a middle tier medical school as opposed to medical schools at the top?

While there are other variables at play(look at the numerous threads that address the complex process of obtaining a residency), if you graduate from an accredited US medical school, you’re in good shape for getting a residency spot in something(again, big difference in the specialties).
Not at all true for law; if you graduate from a lower tier law school, finding a law job is very very tough.

BumppppPpppp

Thanks, I realize now this really wasn’t a good question.
