Extracurriculars

I'm a sophomore (Junior next fall) and a good student (4.0 GPA) and good musician. I do one orchestra outside of school. I really want to do more extracurriculars but my school doesn't really offer anything that interests me. I am interested in medicine and mission work and really want to do something cool. I live in the South Jersey region. Any ideas?

make a club? (:

I agree with Narcissa. What's better then joining a club? Starting one! Not only will you be able to create something that you ARE interested in, but you will gain leadership experience. Colleges will love your initiative!

yeah about making clubs....what's the cap on the number of clubs you can make without having it look weird? because my school lacks many clubs that i like so i made a few (:

Narcissa, what exactly do you mean by "a few?" I think as long as they are QUALITY, well-run clubs, then you're OK. Of course, you'll reach a point where it appears that you're just coasting through with them and not putting in as much effort as you can. If you do decide to start a Medical Science Club, feel free to ask me for advice, as I am currently in the process of starting one.

Anyway, on to the original question. Here are some things I'm doing that you can do as well:
-Volunteering at a nearby hospital.
-In NJ, if you're 16, you can get your EMT licensing and volunteer as an EMT.
-Take a course at a nearby college.
-I'm going to a National Youth Leadership Conference on Medicine this summer. If you want more information, just google NYLF/Med or feel free to ask me anything.

Hmmm... I'll think of a few more things and get back to you!

Hey, I live in New Jersey as well.
I don't know if you've ever heard of it,
But there's a volunteer club in South Jersey called Quixote Quest.
You are set up with a volunteer site and commit to 2 hours per week,
As well as your county's club meeting every month.
It stretches from Gloucester County to Mercer County,
And there's different clubs in each county.
You also have th option of Group Service Projects about once a month.
And it's only during the school year, so it doesn't tie up your summer if you go on vacations with your family and what not.

If you kind of like this, you can message me.
I'm in it hahaha.
