Extracurricular's

Hey I was wondering would it really help that much for colleges if I was on multiple sports teams ever year in high school, 4 years varsity in baseball, 1 year of varsity football (2 because I will be managing senior year), 1 year of managing varsity soccer, and 2 years of being JV basketball captain and maybe playing varsity the next two years. Also I just got selected into a peer development program of 10 kids in the school. Should this help me to get admitted into schools or it really doesn't do much?

What schools in particular are you applying for?

Well, they give you hours plus you have a possibility of getting recruited.

I'm not good enough of an athlete for college at all nor do I want to pursue it, plus my school isn't that competitive in sports.

I'm only a junior so I haven't really thought of applying anywhere yet but here are some schools I am going to look at.

University of Tampa
Springfield College
University of Oregon
Temple University
UMass

and probably a lot of others, those are just schools I like so far. still early but I am interested in the college process and want to get an early impression. But basically schools that aren't too selective and hard to get into, but still good schools that offer Sports Management, particularly in urban areas.

But being an athlete does show that you can commit yourself to something over time, and that you have good sportsmanship, and those are generally good qualities. The main thing that colleges might wonder about is, why did you do one year of football and then stop and then do one year of soccer and then stop and then do basketball? Why didn't you just pick one and continue doing it because you really liked it? But in all fairness, showing that you are committed to athletics is positive. Keep in mind though that they won't make up for bad grades. I think the schools you're applying to care more about grades than anything else.

Yeah when I finish high school I know I will have above average grades. I am heading into my junior year. I had a bad freshman year (didn't take school seriously), above average sophomore year (would have done a lot better but I struggled in some of the courses), and I know I am going to do very well next year and senior year because I am very good at the courses I am taking. Well here are the sports and activites I have and projected to do for finishing high school.

Freshman Year:
Football (everyone makes the team)
JV BBall (captain)
Baseball

Sophmore Year:
JV Soccer
JV BBall (captain)
Baseball

Junior Year:
Varsity Soccer Manager
Varsity BBall
Baseball

Senior Year:
Football Manager
Varsity BBall
Baseball

Thats basically projected and certain for junior and senior year.

Yeah, lookin' good. I mean, a lot of people in big universities probably play sports anyway, so I don't know if you'll stand out amongst the crowd (a big crowd, by the way). That's why grades are way more important in big schools. But you've got nothing to be worried about, as long as you keep it up.

Yeah and I know I have noshot of playing in college so I am not even going to worry about that, but I know being in a peer development program of selected students should help me a little bit being viewed as a leader. I am also going to run for school president but not sure if I will get it.
