Extracurriculars

Well, here's my problem. I have to take care of my brother, so I can't do anything after school now, except maybe music. How will I be able to explain this to a selective college on my resume?

Oh, and, here's the EC's I already have:

NHS
Co-captain of Chess Club
Volunteer Work
Music
Job at New York Hall of Science.
Health Occupations Education (basically, what I do is that it's med based program where you get to work at hospitals etc)

You can explain your situation to the colleges. Since your time is limited, I would focus on a few things that you enjoy doing.

Taking care of your brother IS an EC and is considered as such by the colleges. Be sure to explain this in detail on your application...how old, how many hours/week, responsibilities etc. It is the same as having an after-school job.

Can you include this experience in your essay?
