I had my interview for F-1 visa on 9th of April(>120 days of my class start date as mentioned on I-20). The V/O asked me 4 simple questions to which I responded correctly. But she handed over to me a yellow card which is a refusal letter under the section 221(g) of INA. She kept my passport and said that they would review it again before making any decision, What does that mean? What’re the chances of getting my visa stamped?
Administrative processing, without a request for more documentation, usually means that an additional security check has to be run on your application. Most likely your name matched someone in a database who is ineligible to receive a US visa (known criminals, people with visa overstays, etc), and the government needs time to verify that you are a different person. Maybe you are a close relative to a foreign head of state, and the decision of whether-or-not to grant you a visa has diplomatic implications and needs to be made higher up the chain.
It’s also possible that your visa application was flagged for further review because your proposed major may expose you to sensitive technologies (google “technological alert list”), but that usually results in a request for more information.
