Sounds like more trouble than they are worth. From their web site:

"During its review, the sub-committee found that the policy of de-recognition was not working. It concluded that there were too many negative consequences of a Greek system that was unregulated by the College. Particular problems identified by the sub-committee included risks to student health and safety, reports of hazing, and negative impacts on academic life and student academic performance associated with pledging activities. Finally, all who worked on the guidelines concluded that the rift in the Franklin & Marshall family that had been caused by de-recognition was an impediment to the future of both the College and the Greek system."

Recognize or de-recognize, it sounds like they are trying to tame a monster.

Although my son likes this school (and Bucknell) the Greek thing turns him (and me!) off. He dislikes the jock-drinking-hazing-popularity contest scene much more than the thought of being "in the middle of nowhere" - which for him is not a concern.

I will sya, however, that we have a doctor friend who LOVED F&M (well, 30 years ago anyway).

President Fry is at least acknowledging reality.

Our son is a Junior and when we went on a Campus visit the Pary line was.
Fraternities??? What Fraternities???

The College tried for 18 years to ignore them.

I feel that it is better for the College to be providing Oversight and Guidance.

No one is forced to join. And there are plenty of other good housing Options at F&M

Good luck with your college search.
