Hi everyone,
Can you help me with my situation?
Two weeks ago, I received an email from the Director of Business Services and Financial Aid from the only BS my daughter is applying to. The email includes this:
“Please note both the EFC and your own submitted estimate of your contributions (question 13P of your PFS). If there is a discrepancy between these numbers, please contact me to ensure we are factoring the most accurate and relevant information into our calculations.”
As there is an $8000 discrepancy (my EFC is much less than my own estimated contribution), I emailed her and explained our situation (international applicant from developing country where the cost of living is low). However, I haven’t received an email since then even though the school has always been super supportive and replies really quickly to my daughter previously.
Should I email the Director to ask again? Why isn’t she replying?
Please help me. Thank you guys
It was an automated email sent to everyone applied FA. They are right now very busy and probably don’t have time to individually reply unless they need additional information.
In a situation like this, it’s also possible for your email to have slipped through the cracks. If your situation is unusual, and it sounds like it may be, you might consider a phone call, which won’t get lost in the shuffle. Just make sure, if you have to leave a message, to note any time-zone discrepancies since you’re outside the US.
This sounds like the blanket email sent from Emma Willard…we received it as well. We responded as well, and didn’t get anything back. I am sure they are just very busy!
As the parent of an Emma senior and big fan of the school, I wish all the Emma applicants both admissions and FA good news on March 10!
@girlgeekmom Thank you for the well wishes! Emma is both mine and my dear daughter’s top choice so we definitely have our fingers and toes crossed!
@SculptorDad @girlgeekmom Thank you so much
@RuralAmerica Good luck on your daughter’s application! My daughter is applying to Emma Willard only since she’s already a junior but she is just in love with the school Can I ask why you had to respond to the email as well?
@translucenthues We had to reply to the email as there was a small discrepancy as well that I wanted to explain. Good luck to your daughter! Mine will be a freshman next year and is also in love with the school! M10 can’t come soon enough!
@RuralAmerica My daughter got waitlisted for FA How’s yours?
@translucenthues My daughter received a rejection for FA. Her letter stated that “it is our practice not to offer admission acceptance to students whom we are unable to fund”. No waitlist for us! In fact we were waitlisted or rejected at every school so far today. Luckily, we received acceptance to a school a couple of weeks ago, but they are putting together aid packets these next two weeks…so my fingers are crossed! Good luck if you have any other schools to here from!
My daughter got waitlisted by Emma as well. I am gloomy.
@RuralAmerica Good luck to your daughter!
@SculptorDad Did your email state that she was placed on a ‘selective waitlist’? How is this different from other ones waitlisted or is this just one way of saying?
@SculptorDad Sorry to hear that. I hope you get some better news from other schools.
@translucenthues Her letter also mentioned “selective waitlist” I read it as their waitlist itself is selective.
