Hi guys. Since I heard that Facebook might be open to everybody soon, I just want to remind those of you who might have something inappropriate on there to get rid of it now before your mom or your employer or your coach or your next door neighbor runs across it...

It should only be visible to those in your regional networks and from what I've seen, most people aren't in regional networks; preferring simply their association with their university. Even then, one could just tinker with their privacy setttings so they can retain the freedom they have to post and write about whatever they want.

Yes it is going to be like myspace but with limits. Like the above poster said...although everyone can soon get on facebook not everyone can see it. The only people that can see you then are the ones that see you now.

Myspace has privacy settings too. You can change it so that only friends can view your porfile. Sounds like they are making facebook exactly the same.

They can see a small thumbnail, but they can't click on your profile. It'll be the same as it was before- they can only see your profile if they're in your network.

And hobo- yes, they totally are. Zuckerberg was stupid for turning down the Viacom offer and I suspect that he's willing to do pretty much anything to bring the site up to meet his $2 billion goal.

your parents can't sign up for your school's network without a school email address.

what you do is, set it so that only people on your school's network can see your profile. then all your friends (and friends of friends) can, but no one you know outside of college.

I think that is a good idea. There are a lot of odd balls in the world and the more private you can make your settings on facebook or my space, the better.

We have all seen or heard of the dateline nbc specials at this point, right?

I made a myspace page, because I do the online opp (at my new University, I transferred like soo many times) and I totally have everything set private. If you are not a student at my University who I can "virtually" know, then that is that.

You can set it up so that you're "invisible" outside your network -- your parents couldn't even see a thumbnail of your picture -- nothing would come up when they search for you.

I wrote a suggestion in for facebook... if they are going to make it "public" they should limit the public to by invitation only. I think if it was by invitation only, you could still get your non-college friends to join, but your parents and strange creepy people couldn't join as easily.

(If you like this idea, send that suggestion in for facebook also!)

If you're worried your parents will see things on your profile and think you can hide it by changing your privacy settings, what are you going to say to them when they ask why you're not accepting their friend request?
