FACT: No one chooses to be born as a minority.

"We're going back to 1954 really quickly except this time, blacks have the advantage"-JK

how are they at an advantage if they are the ones living in the rundown neighborhoods where they cannot receive a good education?

"how are they at an advantage if they are the ones living in the rundown neighborhoods where they cannot receive a good education?"

not everyone of them.

in general though
Obviously not everyone of them

then why do all of them get affected by AA?

MissTi, that was the most awful generalization I have ever heard. Holy crap, are you benefiting from the system or something and felt compelled to say something like that to defend yourself?

And the minute AA takes socio economics into consideration and not race there will be a million thread saying how unfair that is and how its not your fault that your family has a lot of money and can afford to send you to a good school. So I don't that will solve the problem. I agree with predictable I think people just like to blame AA for not getting into their top college instead or realizing that maybe they were just not right for the school.
There are plenty of poor white kids on here and no one complains about them when they get the upper hand in admissions (AS THEY DESERVE TO) . . . socioeconomic AA will solve many problems.

Jonathan K.,
I said that because I don't want other urm's to think that the reason people support socioeconmic AA rather than racial AA is to eliminate all blacks from the picture. the way flyguy worded it "well then there will STILL be more blacks than whites if socioenomic AA is implemented" made it seem that the oppnonents against racial AA are racist or something, which isn't the case at all.

and yeah, life isn't fair, but that doesn't mean college admissions has to be unfair also.

This thread has been deemed erroneous and irrelevant. It shall be terminated effective immediately. Thank you.

So I hope you're protesting against recruited athletes and legacy students too!
Yeah. I think that's unfair is well.

College admissions should be purely academic. College isn't for sports. College isn't for diversity. College is for education. Sure, it's great to have athletes on campus, as well as a diverse student body, but if this affects other students admissions decisions, then it's not fair at all.

Why can't everyone stop *****ing about affirmative action.

and no one chooses to be born as a majority.

Colleges have to admit some students who are less qualified than others. Otherwise some schools would end up with freshmen classes that are 70% engineering majors

i'm not even gonna get into the AA discussion, but in regard to...

haha. you do realize that sports bring in A TON of money for colleges, right? think of tickets for games, t shirts and sports gear, and tv contracts.

and what's so bad about some students being more talented that other "purely acdemic" students. sounds like you don't play sports. there are sooo many students that are both smart AND atheltically gifted. students want to have the oppurtunity to get an eduacation while playing the sport they love competitively. how else would we get pro athletes for sports like football and basketball? you expect all of them to come straight out of high school and not have the oppurtunity to get and education? the actualy ivy "league" started off as a sports conference, which it still is today.

and how is college not for diversity? diversity isn't just racial you know. there's diversity in academic and extracurricular interests, achievements, political views, aspirations to contribute to the school, etc...

your concept of college sounds like a prison w/ books. whatever, it's pointless to try and explain one's view to another in this topic b/c usually neither opinion changes.

I'm not saying it's the minorities' fault. It's the people who created AA.

Sorry in today's colleges political views and thoughts can be generalized as group think and a podium for progressivism and the Democratic party. There is no free thought without prosecution. As a rule of thumb, the more elite the college, the more harsher the rules.

KKK members to hanging lynch victim:

"Fact: None of us chose to be the superior race. We just except its privileges"

that was pretty flawed, if college is purely for academics, then college would be very boring and not many would come except the geniuses. america is trying to get a basic education for EVERYONE, not just for the academically talented. people can have other talents too. to tell a dyslexic that s/he can't go to college because they don't have academic talents is very very wrong.

It's fine to give your average kid an education. Just don't send the black kid with a 900 SAT, 1.0 GPA, and EC = pot to Harvard while the white val with a 2400 goes to community college and thinks "wow, i guess the applicant pool was real tough this year."

Btw, anyone who thinks ethnicity = diversity is a COMPLETE RETARD. By that logic, the entire CONTINENT OF ASIA, with a population at least TEN TIMES that of the ENTIRE UNITED STATES, isn't diverse at all because the entire continent is ASIAN. So for all you diversity arguers, UP YOURS!!!
