Factors for Grad School Admissions

Hi. This is my first post in the Graduate School forum, I really want to know what the primary factors for admissions for grad school are. Anyone care to rate them in order of importance? Is there a CollegeBoard.com for grad schools? A link to a similar thread would also be appreciated.

Edit: In case there isn't a generalized answer to the question, I'm not talking about Law or Pre-med. MS in some Engineering discipline or a Masters in Finance et al.

Cheers.

Tyler-Durden, have you looked at the "Graduate School Admissions 101 thread" which is a featured thread at the top of this forum? There you will find answers to almost any question you can think of.

Missed that when I created this thread; been going over it since.

Quick question: would a Grad School choose an applicant with a 3.5 GPA from a well known grade deflating, yet amazing school over a 3.9 applicant from a "lesser" school, all other things being equal?

All things are very rarely equal. If the rest of both of their applications were absolutely amazing, they'd probably accept both students.

The question you ask is just not the right question to ask.

EDIT: Erasing duplicate post.

Let me put it like this then; Do Grad Schools just look at the raw value of an applicant's GPA or do they factor in the difficulty of the undergrad school of the applicant?

Yes, of course they factor the school in. But just not as mechanically as your first question framed it.

Try Princeton Review and Gradschools.com for grad school information.

I don't know what specific field you are pursuing. Try to google "finance/engineering masters programs" and see what type of results you get.
