Faculty in Residence?

We visited Loyola Marymount this week and the woman leading our tour said that a faculty member lives in each dorm. A friend whose daughter is applying to small LACs said that many of the schools they are looking at have this feature in their student housing.

Sounds like a great idea to me! Anyone know other schools that have faculty or non-student staff members living in the dorms?

Purdue has a faculty in residence in one of the dorms but I don’t think it’s been expanded.

There is also a program that pairs a faculty member with a residential dorm floor.
My D’s faculty mentor hosted dinners twice/week, weekly TV nights, took students on hikes etc… D became very close to him and his family. Faculty mentors also have their offices in the dorm. My impression is that some faculty members are more engaged than others. I don’t think she met her faculty mentor more than a couple of times sophomore year but that was on her because she was so busy.

I believe Northwestern has a traditional faculty in residence at each of the dorm clusters but I’m not 100% sure.

Santa Clara University had a Jesuit in residence in each dorm when my kid was there. She said, they were fabulous!

Notre Dame, and some are priests so have Mass in the dorms if they can.

Some of the UChicago ones also have kids. That must be an interesting way to grow up.

UMiami does in some of their dorms. They host dinners and there are expectations from the university for their engagement with the students.
