I was wondering if I needed to report savings bonds that are my Dad's and my name on the FAFSA. I'm not going to be filing under my Dad. If I do need to report them, where on the form should I place the amount.
Thanks so much :)

Whose social security number is on each bond?

Three of them have my social security number on them, the rest have my Dad’s. Also do I write down the amount on the savings bonds, or the amount I would receive if I cashed them today?

Link to Savings Bond calculator:

My guess is that you have to report today’s value (use the link above) for the three that have your social security number, and that if your dad is not your custodial parent, the ones with his social security number do not have to have today’s value reported.

Anyone else care to chime in?

Yes, report the current value from the calculator. There is also a Savings Bond Wizard you can download and run on your computer:

When were these bonds issued, what year? My kids report all the bonds they have received over the years for birthdays etc. as student investments. They are in their names/SSNs with my wife as custodian. We took out bonds in the 90s in our name/SSN that are eligible for the education interest exclusion. They only have our SSNs on them. Those we report as parent investments. I would agree if your Dad’s are like the 2nd ones(that your SSN is not on at all), you wouldn’t have to report them for fafsa since he is the NCP.
