Fafsa drivers license license number instead of social security number?

That is what I’m trying to tell everybody

You did the same thing the last time you posted about applying to Georgia schools as an undocumented student: you ask a question and when you don’t like the answer you start arguing.

The answer is you need a social security number to apply for federal government aid through FASFA. Go ahead and apply using your DL number and see what happens.

So what is the problem? You asked if you can apply for financial aid using a drivers license number. The answer is no, you cannot. You may be able to attend a college that looks favorably on students in your situation (probably private, using financial aid money from their pocket and not tax payer money).

@Pandas452 do you have DACA status?

How much can you afford to spend on college and college applications? I ask, because it’s a waste of your money to apply to colleges that do not accept undocumented students…and yes…those colleges DO exist.

Have you modified your college application list to include affordable colleges that accept undocumented students? If not, you need to do so.

That quoted sections says you are INELIGIBLE to receive state and local benefits, and then defines state and local benefits as including postsecondary education.

Umm, that means you are NOT ELIGIBLE for college benefits.

What are you trying to tell us? That’s what we’ve all been saying, that you AREN’T eligible.

I’m glad you agree with us.

It’s restricting not prohibiting college benefits to non qualified aliens

Just look at the us constitution and it explains why it can not ban noncitizens from attending college

Again, what is the problem? Restricting vs prohibiting? What do you hope to accomplish on here? You asked a question, have gotten information and suggestions. You haven’t answered whether or not you qualify for DACA status. It may make a difference. If the situation is unacceptable to you, maybe you can find an attorney and sue the government.

  1. Do you have DACA status?

  2. Does your state allow DACA residents to enroll at their public universities AND get state financial aid?

  3. How do you plan to pay for college…because a full free ride is unlikely?

  4. I know this is in one of your older threads, but how long have you been in this country, and why wasn’t your immigration status cleared up before now.

Again there is no federal law that prohibits non citizens from attending college including undocumented immigrants.

The constitution has NOTHING to do with college policies prohibiting undocumented students from enrolling. College can and do have this policy.

You need to find a affordable college that accepts undocumented students. They all don’t!

There can’t be a federal law state law or school policy from prohibiting undocumented students that would be unconstitutional to the us constitution

Read this link. Here is a quote from it.

https://www.bestcolleges.com/resources/undocumented-students-guide/

“Undocumented students with excellent grades, ample volunteer experience, and high test scores will find that their path to earning a degree may not be as difficult as they expect. While some states - Alabama, South Carolina, and Georgia - prohibit undocumented students from enrolling in public colleges, the majority welcome them and have protections in place to ensure they can reach their full potential. Regardless of their level of social and cultural assimilation, however, undocumented students may face some challenges when it comes to paying for college. For example, undocumented college students are not eligible for federal financial aid and can only receive state financial aid in a handful of states.”

Pandas 452: I said federal law states have no jurisdiction to create immigration laws have you ever heard what ever happened to Alabama’s hb 56 law? It was stuck down by court.

Ok I’m finally going to give you the hint there is no federal law that prohibits undocumented students college because federal law CAN NOT prohbit undocumented students from attending state colleges they have no jurisdiction form prohibiting non citizens from attending college

Immigration and higher education are two different types of policies. You need to be concerned with state laws as they relate to college enrollment and funding eligibility. There’s a separation of powers in the US. There are powers that belong to the federal government and powers that belong solely to the states. Each state has its own Dept. of Education and makes its own regulations. State education systems can, and do, decide who is eligible to attend their schools and receive their aid. Colleges are going to verify your status. You aren’t going to be able to skirt VISA rules or get aid you’re not eligible for because colleges aren’t going to risk their accreditation for violating state and/or federal laws.

Please cite what part of the U.S. Constitution says that the federal and/or state governments can’t ban noncitizens from attending US colleges.

But states do not have the power only the federal government do determine eligibility for financial aid or college admittance based on immigration status. And the federal government is only restricted to determine eligibility based on immigration status on federal things only like federal voting or federal public benefits but yet again it has to be constitutional because yet Again constitutional rights are for the PEOPLE not just citizens with few exceptions like federal voting.

Did you read the link I posted above…at all? Guess not.

Yes I read it did you read mine

Others posted the reply…I see no reason to duplicate it.

What exactly do you want people to tell you?

Do you want us to say you can apply and be accepted to ANY college as an undocumented student? You can’t.

Do you want us to tell you that you will have access to the same need based financial aid as permanent residents or citizens? You won’t. In fact, some colleges don’t give a nickel of need based or merit aid to international students…and you are an international student.

Correct, but there is no requirement that states allow non-citizens into their college either. There IS a requirement that elementary and secondary students receive a public education but federal law doesn’t make that guarantee for college. States CAN refuse to offer college to non-qualified aliens.

You’ve run into a state, GA, that chose not to allow undocumented students into state colleges and universities. As we’ve said, find a state that does allow you to attend college.

Please let people here help you. Many knowledgeable posters know what you are facing as an undocumented student who (I assume) needs financial aid to go to college. We can help guide you if you let us.

If you just want to argue using incorrect facts, then I don’t understand what outcome you are seeking by posting here.
