So, my parents have been separated for over a year and are in the process of getting divorced. I've lived with my mom the entire time and she makes under $40,000 a year. My dad brought in the majority of the income when they were together So, my question is, who should I have put down on my FAFSA? My dad helped me complete it and we put down my mom's info since shes the one I live with. However, my dad will be the one paying for a majority of my college. Will this work?

Yes, that will work. Your mom is the custodial parent.

I think that you do have to include on FAFSA what your dad pays for you in child support and then next year you’ll include the payment of your college costs in the appropriate places.

There are people here who know far more than I do, but if your parents can reach agreement, I think it is far far better for your dad to put any money he is willing to pay toward your education into a 529 plan rather than pay your mom, you or school directly. Same for child support, if your mom is going to use it on your education, have dad put into 529.
