Colleges require varying forms of documentation…from just linking the tax return to the data retrieval tool on the FAFSA…to participating in IDOC and requesting full tax returns including all schedules.
Profile schools typically want more information and more documentation to support it. Some Profile schools will require that you tons of documentation…full tax returns…everything…via IDOC.
Even FAFSA only schools can request complete signed copies of your tax returns, including all schedules.
We had a college (2003-2007) that annually asked for our mortgage balance from our lender, copies of three months of bank statements, and our tax returns…every year…and oddly…we didn’t get a dime of need based aid.
Look at college websites under financial aid application. You will see what schools require…and the DEADLINES. Don’t miss the deadlines.
Check out a few colleges…and you will see what we all mean.
Actually, the question about vehicles is one of the optional questions that is only asked if a school wants it there. I think that once the student selects schools to send Profile to, any of the “extra” questions that any of those schools want answers to will be presented to the student/parent, and the information will get to the requesting school.
As for Michigan, they require CSS profile in addition to FAFSA for freshmen. So even they meet the needs of OOS students with less than $90k family income and $50k asset, it may or may not match your FAFSA EFC. It is very close for us though. The tuition waiver is only for in state students with less than $65k family income. However, low income OOS students may get a grant near the full tuition amount when they meet the need. Music performance majors also offer merit scholarships to top candidates depending on audition. I know former and current international students there receiving up to full ride.
Which Michigan school? @billcsho
@Skippy00 Only UMich meets the need of OOS lower middle class.
