Sorry if this has been asked before, but I searched several pages and didn't see an answer. Do I report my son's taxable scholarship dollars on FAFSA for amounts that he earned from working? I know that it says to put in line 1 from the 1040EZ, but he actually only made $662 working last year. He did receive taxable scholarship money making line 1 of 1040EZ much higher than his actual 'working' dollars. I did report the scholarship money that was taxable on the subsequent page.

You do report the taxable portion of the scholarships in question 44d on the FAFSA. This removes that amount from his income in the calcuations.

Thank You. Sorry for being obtuse, but I just want to make sure that I have this right. For question 39 (Student’s income earned from work), I should include his taxable scholarships as working income?

Good point. I was thinking in terms of it being included in AGI. You only report income earned from work in question 39, then you report the taxable portion of grants/scholarships in 44d. This allows the grants/scholarships to be pulled out of AGI (question 36).

Thanks. Now I can submit the FAFSA. I already completed and submitted the CSS Profile. Just IDOCs to go! =D>

Phew … bet you’ll be glad when it’s all done!
