does fafsa consider montly mortgage/rent when calculating the efc??

No.
…

The FAFSA also considers SECOND properties owned (e.g. vacation homes and rental properties).

It does not consider your primary residence.

I wonder if FAFSA has some kind of “built in” number that it assumes for housing/living expenses by your zip code. ( I have no idea)

Therefore, there would be no need to put in rent/mortgage because if those numbers are higher than their “built in” numbers, then that would just suggest a lifestyle choice.

Again, I have no idea. lol

There are varying property values even WITHIN a zip code. Our property is considered waterfront…it has a LOT more value that properties in our town that are on little side roads. We have acres of land. Others have 1/4 acre lots. NO WAY for the FAFSA to know this. There is NOTHING on the FAFSA that deals with your primary residence.

FAFSA does not consider your primary residence. The Profile considers the equity in your primary residence.
