Fafsa

my parents didnt go to college before so i have no idea how it is done
i'm a senior this year
and just wondering when should we apply for FAFSA?
before your application or after?

Start your fafsa right away. It is independent of application timing. Talk to the GC at school if you 'have no idea how it is done'. Even kids with parents who went to college don't know unless they read about it, it was so long ago and things are different.

You cannot start the FAFSA for the 2006-07 school year until January 1, 2006. That is when it will be available for filing. Sometimes it is online in December...and you can begin to fill it out...but you can't file it until January 1, 2006 at the earliest. In the meantime...you will need to have your parents and your tax returns for 2004 to file in January. When you file then, you will be indicating that you WILL FILE your taxes for 2005. Once your taxes are done for 2005 (which should be ASAP after January 30) you will go and amend your FAFSA with the current tax info.

yes, look at the fafsa.gov site for deadlines etc, but it's a good idea to print off the current year and look at the financial info you have to collect and start to do the worksheets. It will be very much the same for last year as for this year.
