Hi guys so, my cousin has talked to me about a concern she had with her financial aid, I thought bringing it here would be great seeing as I personally do not have the answer to her question… She had some family issues going on her first semester and it reflected on her grades. She took leave for the spring semester. She was wondering if she would be eligible for financial aid for fall 2017 because of the bad gpa she has. Shes already applied for it and they said she was eligible. Now, she didn’t qualify for financial aid back then so the money she used were loans. So basically she was just wondering if fafsa would pay for her this academic year seeing as she did not fail the first semester while using fafsa. Idk if this makes sense. Sorry if it doesn’t i think it’d be easier from her point of view, but we’d appreciate some help!
FAFSA is a financial aid application form. It does not award money. It is used to determine eligibility for federally funded need based aid…and at some schools institutional aid.
Checking for clarity…you say your cousin applied for aid and was told she IS eligible? The really, she needs to see what award she is given by the school.
In terms of how much she will receive? What is her parent family income? That income and the school policy of aid awarding will determine what she receives.
Yes, she applied and was eligible. So should that be it? The email would have said she wasn’t eligible, correct?
She needs to contact the college…and ask!
When did she apply…and when do they send awards for continuing students?
How much aid does she need? Did she get enough need based need as an incoming freshman?
If she had a merit award, my guess is her poor grades would not make that continue.
