Failed first 2 quarters of university - 6 classes…..Is Grad school an irrational goal?

I failed two quarters of university- 6 classes…..

Why did I flunked out from college? Maybe it was my extremely poor high school education and lack of intelligence.

But, even though I flunked two quarters of university I still have an enormous desire to understand.

I plan to improve my study habits by taking some free online courses for the following 10 months. Now I am aware that If I go back to school, I would need to get excellent grades to improve my gpa.

What are your thoughts about my experience? Is my desire to go to grad school out of proportion with my high school and college experience?

Thanks,

First, I’d ask why you NEED to go to grad school. Too much info left out. But more I just recommend that you take it one step at a time and figure out how a plan for college graduation.

I merged this discussion with the other one you posted - you only need to post one question at a time; the grad school forum is a bit slower than the others.

Yeah, I would say that there’s not enough information here.

1) What is your cumulative GPA? Major GPA?
2) What kind of grad school are you trying to go to? A PhD program, an academic master’s, a professional masters?
3) Which classes did you fail? Were you academically dismissed from your school or did you leave on your own (you refer to “going back”)?

Graduate school is not about understanding; it’s about earning a credential you need to do a specific type of job or set of jobs/careers.

I am not sure why you think taking free online courses will improve your study habits.

After I failed my first two quarters of university I left on my own. My schizophrenia contributed to some of the reasons why I failed but my main weakness was my poor high school education i think

I want to go to grad school because I want to teach but I am not sure if i want to persue a master or phd degree

Grades C Z F D Z F ………Z= unofficial withdraw

Step 1: Get back into university.

Step 2: Get better grades and keep improving.

Step 3: Once you have a successful year or two under your belt, you can start thinking about possibly going to graduate school.

If you do well in your undergraduate reboot, you will find graduate programs which will overlook your disastrous start, however, you need to prove yourself academically and it is way premature to think about graduate school now. Of course you should have a career in mind and work toward it but take the first steps first.
