I am going to be a junior in highschool and to say that sophomore year was hard is an understatement. I lost 4 family members this year and my school dealt with 4 suicides, one was a very good friend. I failed two classes (Algebra 2 and Human Body systems) I can redo Algebra 2 again over the summer but I’m wondering if this will effect my chances of getting into college?? I want to get accepted into University Colorado Colorado Sorings which to my knowledge isn’t extremely competitive. I know that failing classes doesn’t look good to colleges but I was not doing good good mentally. I have recently started to get help. If I explain what happened to the college and get straight A’s like I did freshman year, would I be able to get in?? I also take AP and honors classes except for math. I am taking an ACT prep course, the course normally gives students a score of around 30 which is above average. If I happen to be one of the students who gets that score will that increase my chances of acceptance? I know I messed up my chances as of now but I am prepared to work as hard as I can the next two years of school. Will colleges notice my change and give me at least a chance to be accepted as a student?
See if you can retake those classes either on campus or at the community college this summer; ask your counselor.
You can get into colleges if you retake the classes and get decent grades. Did you ever consider going to CC and then transferring to UCCS? Once you go to a CC, your high school grades won’t matter.
