FAILING APUSH?!

I’m freaking out. I got at D+ on my midterm which is below a 70. I can’t believe this I have a solid b in the class but I frankly don’t do well on the tests and quizzes. I write essays okay like B- to A- range but the tests and quizzes are D- to Cs so can any PLEASE help me??? I NEED TO GET A B OR B PLUS IN THIS CLASS!! this is quite impossible I would cry if I even get a B- cause I just don’t want a C+ or below.
Our apush class is the hardest in this school along with ap chem. I’m a sophomore but my classmates are doing fairly well. I don’t understand why I’m failing… please help!!!

Though I don’t know your study habits, it seems like your main problem is just not going through the material well enough. Last year in APUSH I didn’t have a hot start either. However, I read the textbook closely (each chapter was like 100 pages with tiny font - Name: Out of Many: History of the American People) and my grades improved dramatically. My B- in the first quarter went to an A by the time the semester ended. If you still need better understanding of the concepts, I found the AMSCO book for APUSH to be very helpful is like a 20 page study guide for each chapter. Online-wise many of my friends used information from a YT channel called CrashCourse, and they found it extremely helpful in clearing up any loose ends.

Other than that, I can’t really tell you much. As long as you are diligent and focus on your work, you will see your grades improve. REMEMBER: Read the crap out of the textbook.

Good Luck!!

Thank you so much! I don’t ready the chaptees as much…I only read my chapter notes and try to get the key points and terms down chronologically. Which I guess is memorizing? I know this is a concepts class rather Than rote memorization.
I’ll look into AMSCO but the thing is our textbook is American Pagent not 100 pages per chapter only 25-35 so is AMSCO really worth it? I only have review books from barrons and princeton And my textbook (but I focus more on my notes).
Im definetly gonna turn things around with reading the textbook multiple times not just one.

Thanks

I recommend watching Adam Norris’ videos on youtube. I use American Pageant in my APUSH class as well and his videos correlate with the chapters in the textbook. I’d also like to point out that his videos are really spot on in terms of textbook content so I like to use it as a good introduction of the chapter I’m about to read as well as a good summary. I highly, highly recommend him.

I’d also recommend using online quizzes and such. If you google search “usquizmainpage” the first link will give you a site where you can take online quizzes about various APUSH topics - my teacher tends to use it to make some of our tests so I feel that it’s really good for general in class test prep. Use quizlet to find vocabulary related to the chapter(s) and make a mind map so you can see how events relate, I feel that could be really beneficial.

Personally, I dislike the American Pageant textbook a lot as it has unnecessary fluff and dry humor; however, I feel that reading it (especially out loud/taking notes or my persona favorite of doing both) leads to better retention and less work when prepping for actual exams. If I think of anything else, I’ll let you know ^u^

Maybe watch the GetAFive videos for APUSH. It is free, I believe, and he goes over most of the unit topics really in depth, speaking for for anywhere between 20-40 minutes on EACH chapter. Of course you still must read, but it is a really great supplement. I sometimes simply listen while browsing the internet or doing other homework.

@TheDesiBoy Are you being serious that a chapter is 100 pages??

Nevermind, it was apparently around 70 pages a chapter. But it was extremely helpful for me to do well in the class. I would just use the textbook that the class gives you.
